Harriet and I are so glad to be home with our church family today. We were away last weekend to officiate at a family wedding. Of course, it was good to be with our family and celebrate such a joyous occasion with our nephew and new niece, their friends, and extended families. Having time with our children and grand-son, and my dad were special too. Still, as good as it was, there is no better place to be than in our own church with our church family on Sunday mornings, and now Saturday evening as well.
Makes me reflect on the joys and blessings associated with the local church. Many people today believe that the fullness of our faith can be experienced in the solitude of private expressions of faith and individual, personal worship. While I don't doubt that such experiences are possible, they certainly are not the norm. Sure, people who are isolated from congregational life because of health or other issues can worship and serve God. However, our faith is meant to be experienced in community, the union of God's people, the very body of Christ.
So, today as we worship, pray, and study God's Word together, in that mysterious, miraculous fellowship that we call the church, we are ever thankful for our church family and the joy of serving with them at this critical time. It is good to be home.
"...to Him be glory in the church, and in Christ Jesus, throughout all generations, forever and forever. Amen" (Ephesians 3:21).
Yes.
